It’s Halloween, Baby!

I will haunt your dreams

I will haunt your dreams

‘90% of having a baby is dressing them up in silly outfits, right?’

A very naïve me, pre-children.

Sadly, I have discovered that is in fact NOT the case. Maybe 5% – and that’s only for as long as he is unable to forcefully object.

Today, however, is  one of them – Halloween, the only time it is acceptable to spend your day making large vegetables look sinister and roaming the streets begging for food.

Before we had our own little devil pumpkin, we got in the spirit of this occasion by buying Haribo to hand out (and scoff ourselves) and spent the night with friends, watching super scary films with wine and popcorn, recklessly shrieking away and staying up late in the way only people who can sleep and make noise when they want can do.

It was all very terrifying enjoyable, but I have realised that I don’t actually need to add anything spooky into the mix this year; we have more than enough to be scared of, thanks to our very own little Chucky.

We don’t need rent-a-ghost, for I am the ghoul who haunts these halls at night, treading as softly as a whisper and silently opening and closing each door lest I disturb the master of the manner with even the tiniest squeak.

There need be no green face and pointy hat to have a witching hour here – most every day before dinner is enough to have the wartiest of witches hop onto their brooms and skedaddle.

The Exorcist can do no good when my son is possessed in temper – walk on by, healer man; it is too late for us – save yourself.

Strange noises in the night are already in abundance with sleep-shattering screams turning dreams to nightmares. Freddy, don’t bother knocking – you will meet your match.

We require no Trick-or-Treaters this year, as our day is already full of cheeky scamp antics, mess, jokes (on us) and of course many treats – most usually in the form of a slobbery kiss and a very big cuddle. So on balance, I suppose it’s not all bad.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO YOU AND YOUR LITTLE MONSTERS!

  1. Don’t tell me it’s not usually acceptable to make vegetables look sinister! (According to my kids I do that nearly every day.)

We are familiar with possessed toddlers and parental ghouls. Nice Halloween post 🙂

  2. Lol, love it – agree with your points about the witching hour and those moments when your little ones are possessed by temper tantrums. I also think that me in the mornings before coffee is quite scary too! 🙂
